Puyo Pop, known as Minna de Puyo Puyo in Japan, is the first of the Puyo Puyo games made for the Game Boy Advance, and the first made by Sonic Team after Compile went bankrupt and gave the rights to Sega. However, at the same time, it is the last to use the original Madou Monogatari cast. It was not counted in the "official" sequence, nor were the later Anniversary games, as evidenced by the naming of Puyo Puyo 7. The Japanese title means "Everybody Puyo Puyo", which refers to the game's four player mode and became a staple in future games. The Western title is simply named Puyo Pop, because previously all other releases had been masked by various alterations. Some fans have dubbed it Puyo Pop GBA, to avoid confusion when using its English title. Out of all the Puyo Puyo games, this one seems to be the most directly influenced by Puyo Puyo Tsu, though some of the elements in game are reminiscent of Puyo Puyo~n, such as Rule Henka.
There are two components for playing a gba Puyo Pop game on your PC. The first component is the emulation program which can imitate the gba OS and software.
The second component is the Puyo Pop game itself to play on the emulator.
Step 1: you can start by downloading a reliable and bug free emulator. We’d suggest VBA-M – it’s open source, fast and one of the most frequently updated.
Once you have finished downloading VBA-M, extract the downloaded .zip file to a location, for example your Desktop. After, double click the visualboyadvance-m.exe file in order to start the emulator.
Your emulator will now be ready to play Puyo Pop. But now you’ll need to find the correct ROMs online. A ROM is essentially a virtual version of the game that needs to be loaded into the emulator.
Step 2: return to Visualboyadvance-m and hit File > Open. Navigate to the downloaded .zip file and double click it to open it. The game will now run on the emulator and you can play the game freely.
Tip: Saving games on an emulator functions a little differently. The integrated save system will not save your progress.
Instead, you’ll need to click File > Save State and then choose an empty slot. You can save your progress in whatever point you like within the game, not only on the official checkpoints offered by the game.
When playing in the future and you want to continue from your saved state, you can use File > Load State to load up the game from exactly where you last saved it.
